3D Home Design: Using Computer Modeling for Additions

Remodeling a home is all about visualizing the un-built, but this can sometimes be difficult for homeowners (and even builders and remodelers!). If you want to expand your home and build an addition, having a concrete visual can help. This is where 3D modeling comes in.

3D Modeling

With computer-aided design (CAD), like SketchUp or AutoCAD software, remodeling professionals can create interior and exterior perspectives to help clients understand the new home design and see how it will look, feel, and perform. The Wentworth team frequently uses CAD and 3D modeling when building home additions for our clients.

We illustrate the three dimensional design on the computer screen or in a printed form for the client to take home and look at. Below are a couple examples of 3D modeling illustrations we have completed for homeowners.

Tudor Home Addition 3D Modeling

Our clients wanted to keep the addition in sync with their home’s Tudor architecture, so we prepared three different options, each variations of the half-timber decorative treatment found on the front of the home but true to the Tudor style.

Screened Porch Addition 3D Modeling

The homeowners like to be outdoors and sought a design-build firm to create a three-season screened porch/sunroom where they could enjoy the view, sunlight and privacy of their ideal setting without the worry of insects. We provided several different 3D modeling illustrations to help.

Benefits of 3D Modeling

Presenting homeowners with multiple options using 3D modeling offers many benefits. It:

  • Makes the process easier for homeowners and helps provides a better overall experience
  • Gives the homeowners confidence in their decision and helps increase their overall satisfaction with the remodel
  • Creates an easy visual
  • Helps build trust and comfort
