Home Remodel (Room Conversions)

SW Washington, DC

A second-floor rear bedroom that overlooks the Washington Channel was selected as the new TV room complete with built-in cherry wood bookcases. A wet bar has a concealed under-counter refrigerator, microwave, and bar sink with wall cabinets to store glassware. Mosaic-style, penny round tile finish the backsplash. Silestone countertop offers easy maintenance.
A custom sliding barn door with a stainless-steel track adds a bit of character and provides privacy for visiting guests.

A former bedroom was converted into a hobby craft room. Both the desk and the craft table utilize manmade stone for their durability.
The new elevator travels from the basement to the second floor and utilizes the space of a former staircase as its elevator shaft. An elevator pit and machine room were built in the basement to accommodate the new equipment. The elevator cab is fitted with grab bars and is finished at the interior with cherry paneling. A sliver of space left over after the elevator installation was converted into a striking three-story display of 18 glass pendants suspended from the ceiling.

The three-story space adjacent to the elevator remaining after the stair was removed provides an open shaft where 18 glass pendants are suspended from the ceiling. The pendants provide illumination and visual interest to the unique interior space.
