Custom Kitchen Island Design: Elliptical Countertop
Are you planning to remodel your kitchen and looking for ideas? One design element to consider is an island. Kitchen islands offer many benefits, from both an aesthetic and functionality standpoint. They can:
- Make food preparation and cooking much easier
- Provide extra room for entertainment
- Allow you to cook and socialize at the same time
- Add a multi-purpose space to your kitchen
Although form should always follow function in kitchen remodeling, it doesn’t mean you can’t have a beautiful space. A central island can improve the efficiency of your kitchen, but it can also serve as a gorgeous focal point and enhance the overall design of the room. This is exactly what the Wentworth team achieved with a Bethesda, Maryland kitchen remodel.
The New Kitchen Island
For the newly remodeled airy, open kitchen, we designed and built a custom countertop made of walnut.
Custom Countertop Construction
New Custom Countertop on the Island
The custom 9-foot island is both functional and aesthetic, accommodating a sink, dishwasher, microwave drawer, and storage cabinetry.
Affectionately called the “surfboard” for its attractive shape, the island’s elevated countertop (with bar stool seating) was custom fabricated by Wentworth’s carpenters. The curved shape provides visual contrast to the rectilinear island. The portion of the island facing the family room was enhanced with applied moldings to create a pattern of three equal panels that is in sync with other millwork throughout the house. Three low-voltage pendant light fixtures highlight the island.
