Wentworth Wins a NKBA Baltimore/Washington Chapter Kitchen & Bath Design Award

Wentworth recently received a 2011 Kitchen & Bath Award from the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) Baltimore/Washington Chapter. The transformation of a dreary Washington, DC galley kitchen into an airy entertaining space snagged a Best in Class award in the competitive Small Kitchens category.

Washington, DC Award-Winning Kitchen Remodel Details

When a narrow and dark kitchen impeded the homeowners’ ability to chat with guests during meal prep, Wentworth suggested that a small addition coupled with a smart use of space, would dramatically and aesthetically improve their self-described “retirement home.” To effectively expand their galley kitchen, the homeowners sacrificed a rear porch that was infrequently used. What they lost in outdoor space, they gained in usable kitchen space: a sunny breakfast nook with a view of the garden now sits where the porch used to be.

The removal of a wall, as well as several new design features (roll-out shelving and a mix of glass and solid cabinet doors) expand space and create a cohesive sense of light in what the homeowners once described as a “gloomy galley kitchen.” aesthetically
