Small Kitchen Ideas: Microwave Drawers

We have written about the best appliances and design ideas for small kitchens, which are common here in the Washington, DC area. Microwave drawers are an appliance we highly recommend and often use in kitchen remodels we complete.

What Is a Microwave Drawer & What Are Its Benefits?

Let’s start with what a microwave drawer is. It is a compact microwave are tucked into a 24- or 30-inch-wide base cabinet. With these built-in appliances, gone are the days of the unattractive microwave/range hood combination hanging above a cooktop! Besides their aesthetic benefits, microwave drawers offer several advantages. They:

  • Are unobtrusive
  • Leave extra room for cabinetry
  • Help increase storage space (always valuable in a small kitchen!)

Is a Microwave Drawer Right for You?

Microwave drawers are great solutions in smaller spaces, but they aren’t necessarily right for every single kitchen. Consider your needs and priorities. How do you use your kitchen? The Wentworth team can help you with this. We’ll ask questions like:

  • Do you frequently cook large meals?
  • Are you physically unable to or prefer not to bend down often?
  • How often do you use your kitchen?
  • And more

Here at Wentworth, we often recommend and use Sharp, Thermador, and Wolf microwave drawers.

“ Hi, Bruce,
I look forward to your articles in Chevy Chase Village Life -- I love bungalows so I immediately read the article in the latest issue that arrived yesterday (as your team was here planning for the photo shoot). I also liked the Sponsor Spotlight this month -- featuring your company. Is it possible to get a reprint or link to your article on porches that appeared recently? I would love to add one to our NC beach home, but so far no one has been able to figure out how to get access from the inside to the outside! I know my sister would love to see the article too. Thanks for ALL of your amazing work. I hope you will feel free (and confident) to use us as references. The only hard part will be communicating what an outstanding job -- beyond our high expectations -- your team did for us. We are demanding, but your team is more demanding in the excellence that they deliver. ”
