qr-award-cropWentworth is proud to have recently won an award in the Qualified Remodeler Master Design Awards contest. We won a Silver Award in the “Kitchen More than $150,000” category.

Award-Winning Kitchen Project Details

The project that won the award was a kitchen remodel we completed in the Washington, DC neighborhood of Kalorama.

Seeing unlimited potential in the large 1986 home, the homeowners enlisted the help of Wentworth’s design-build team to bring their new home to life.

Working closely with them, we created a design that transformed closed-off rooms into a seamless floor plan. By opening the wall that once divided the formal dining room from the kitchen, we allowed the kitchen to seamlessly flow into a breakfast room and family/TV room. We also incorporated modern necessities, such as:

  • A 36-inch wide cooktop
  • A 36-inch wide counter-depth refrigerator
  • A freestanding 8-foot island with bar sink
  • A dry bar complete with liquor storage

With these features, the new kitchen is both user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing. What was once an unlivable space is now airy, yet cozy—perfect for both casual dinners and formal entertaining.

“ What appealed to the buyers…was the balance between the old and the new, the preservation of the original features of the house, set off by the new open and lighter look. A friend who showed the house to her cousin, an architect, told me that he liked the kitchen enormously and has used it to inspire his own designs. Highest form of flattery. ”
