Niches in Home Design
Do you wish there was a way to display personal belongings in the kitchen or bathroom without having to take up cabinet space? Or perhaps you’ve been trying to think of ways to conveniently store everyday items without cluttering up countertop space. A niche could be the design solution you need!
What Is a Niche?
In home design, a niche is a shallow recess or alcove in a wall, used for display or storage. A kitchen niche is typically installed above the range, often in the backsplash. A bathroom niche is sometimes located near the vanity/sink area or in the shower stall for convenient storage.
Niches offer a couple different benefits. Not only can they be used for aesthetic purposes, but they can be a convenient solution for storing everyday items needed in the kitchen. They are also ideal solutions for any areas:
- Basements (particularly the wet bar/entertainment area)
- Family rooms/living rooms/great rooms (for displaying décor near the fireplace and mantel)
The Wentworth team has used niches in many kitchens and bathrooms we have designed. If you’re interested in a remodel for your home in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, get in touch with us today—and feel free to browse our photo gallery to see past projects we have completed!
