Niches in Home Design

Do you wish there was a way to display personal belongings in the kitchen or bathroom without having to take up cabinet space? Or perhaps you’ve been trying to think of ways to conveniently store everyday items without cluttering up countertop space. A niche could be the design solution you need!

What Is a Niche?

In home design, a niche is a shallow recess or alcove in a wall, used for display or storage. A kitchen niche is typically installed above the range, often in the backsplash. A bathroom niche is sometimes located near the vanity/sink area or in the shower stall for convenient storage.

Niches offer a couple different benefits. Not only can they be used for aesthetic purposes, but they can be a convenient solution for storing everyday items needed in the kitchen. They are also ideal solutions for any areas:

  • Kitchens
  • Bathrooms
  • Basements (particularly the wet bar/entertainment area)
  • Family rooms/living rooms/great rooms (for displaying décor near the fireplace and mantel)

“ On the construction side I couldn't be more pleased. Wentworth staff on site inspired confidence and no carpentry task seemed too challenging. They took the same care they would take in building their own house, and in addition were always quite professional and considerate. On many construction details I consider myself a perfectionist, and I soon learned that I could sit back and relax as details would be attended to with a very high standard. ”
